The Infamous 4/27

As many of you know, a tornado ripped through northern Alabama Wednesday.  First at school and then at home, we went through several tornado threats.  While some touched down only moments from us, God kept his hand on us and our home.  We only have a dead tree in our back yard.

Riding the storm out in the bathtub with Kyle and Ivey was an adventure in itself, but once I began hearing of the damage elsewhere... I could do nothing but thank our Heavenly Father!  Knowing we would have no power for some time, knowing that Ivey Ann and no power don't work well, and knowing that I had several hundreds of dollars of meat in the freezer... we headed north to my parents in Tennessee.  It wasn't until we reached their home that we discovered just how blessed we were.  After seeing pictures and video, we realized that we were one mile or less from the destructive tornado that began in Phil Campbell area and ending in Harvest.  Just less than 2 minutes from us, homes have disappeared and some lost their lives.  Our thoughts and prayers are with these people.

Homes next to us mostly had trees down in yards, some on their homes.  However, as we neared Athens, AL, we saw were the tornado crossed over.

This is our only damage... a dead tree in the yard.  Amazing... thank you, God!
 Our neighborhood...

On the way to Athens... this is where the tornado crossed over Hwy 72.  Not even the worse of the storm...
Church of Christ and WAFF's doppler radar (the ball is gone).  There were several people in the basement of this church when this happened.

Many areas were hit hard.  Kyle's Aunt Sandra & Uncle Stacey lost their home in the tornado in DeKalb county.  Please pray for them as they begin the cleaning process.  Their lives were spared with minor injuries.  As you can see, they were blessed to walk away...

Also, thankful that Kyle's parents were untouched in the midst of the tornadoes in DeKalb and Jackson county.  Plus, his sister, Whitney, was in Tuscaloosa and saw the tornado as it left utter destruction there.

In addition, before the tornadoes began in our area, the storms were beginning at my family's home in Collinwood, TN.  In fact, in the early hours of the morning, a small tornado passed less than 1/2 mile from my parents' and brother's homes.  It destroyed a trailer, trees, and damaged many homes and barns.

A wild day... but one that lets us know that God is in charge!  Continue to pray for those whose lives have been totally changed by these events.
