All Aboard! Vacation Bible School was a train theme this year and was Ivey's first bible school where she actually went to class for stories and crafts. She came home every day able to tell you something that she learned (some days more than others), was so excited about all the crafts she did each day, and could belt out the words to all the songs along with the motions! She was a little sponge just taking it all in!
She had some partners-in-crime with her during the week... However, Mattie Kay is just growing to fast on us. She was Miss Independent in the older class while Ivey and Wyatt were buddies in their class.
I do believe that Ivey's favorite part of the week was the puppets.... Tommy and Annie (aka Carson and Kaylan). She was still as could be every morning when they came out and did their skit. The two pictures below are printed and still carried around by the little girl. Just a couple of days ago she found the pictures in with her toys and brought them to me saying how much she missed them! =)
One morning Ivey was asked to carry the bible for the beginning ceremony. I really did not think she would do it, but unbelievably, she was excellent! Our only problem... she kept saying her legs were tired (we had just gotten up and come to church) and would sit down on the spot. Didn't help that she had a skirt on and doesn't have a clue how to sit like a lady... oh well, at least she had on pink panties that looked like bloomers.
MawMaw trying to coax her to stand back up!
Now if anyone reading this says they are just too old and tired to help with VBS... you need to reprioritize. MawMaw Berry was there everyday doing what she could. Did she sit down quite a bit? Yes. Was she able to do heavy lifting? No. Did she teach? No. She just did whatever she was able to do... that is a servant's heart.
Ivey praying at the beginning of class..
Miss Patty was the puppet in class that Ivey was thrilled over, as well. She helped them sing the music!
All aboard the Sonlight Express!
Playing with new friends...
Ready for the ending ceremony... she kept running like a wild person around the kitchen yelling one line of a song from the week... "I'm going to meet Him! I'm ready to go!" She was so excited!
Why is she in my arms? She was so excited to sing for all her family at the commencement but when the time came... she froze and wanted her "mommy." The little booger got in my arms, saw her daddy with the camera, and posed with this fake smile!
The kiddos received a big surprise after commencement. A train just for them pulled by a lawnmower. Now don't be fooled... Ivey was very excited and got on the train with a friend from the week. However, as soon as Engineer Tommy (aka PawPaw) fired up the engine (aka the lawnmower) she bailed out of her cart and did not touch solid ground for quite some time!
We look forward to many more VBS trips to come... VBS is great but the most precious part - spending time with family - cannot be traded for the world. These are the memories I want for my baby...
I leave you with this thought.... we think what we do for God doesn't matter much sometimes because it seems so small. MawMaw and PawPaw Berry along with a few others started Burns Chapel many years ago because there seemed to be a need in the community. Now after all these years, the same church is teaching MawMaw's great-grandchildren how to love God and put Him first in their lives!
